Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

Taking on the Challenge

Before kids I cycled a lot.  My cycling began as recreational rides of 10km or so (a major milestone at the time), and grew to 100 km training rides and cycle touring.  My husband and I enjoyed cycle touring with Bicycle Victoria's "Great Rides" in NZ's south island and Tasmania in 2004 and 2005.  Also in 2005 we organised our own cycle tour in Vietnam, cycling from Hanoi to Sapa.  A surprise redundancy later that year, and some unpaid leave, facilitated even more touring in Europe.  We were hooked on cycling as the way to travel.  However we were also hoping to start a family, and our first child was born in October 2006.

We planned to keep cycling - buying a Chariot cycle trailer before he was born.  However the realities of family life meant that our cycling became quite different - short trips, bike paths, etc.  I itched to get back on the bike and out into the country side.  Now, two children and eight years later, I am back doing just that, training for the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.

Check out my training progress on Strava.
